Using Webmail

Overview

Webmail clients are available for your Virtual Server that will allow your users to check their e-mail using a browser instead of a desktop e-mail client. Which Webmail client is available will depend on which Control Panel you are using, but the overall functionality is the same for each client.

In order to use a Webmail client you will need to have an E-mail Domain and e-mail user accounts configured. More information about setting up E-mail domains and users can be found for each available Control Panel - ISPmanager 4, ISPmanager 5.

Installing a Webmail client

Installing a Webmail client using the Control Panel

The Webmail client is installed from the Control Panel. Which Webmail client is available to you will depend on which Control Panel you are using. You may also need to install PHP in order for the Webmail client to work.

Installing a Webmail client using the ISPmanager Control Panel

The Webmail client available in ISPmanager will depend on which version of ISPmanager is installed. ISPmanager 4 has SquirrelMail available, and ISPmanager 5 has Roundcube available.

ISPmanager 4

To use Webmail (SquirrelMail) in ISPmanager 4, you will need to make sure that PHP is installed. If PHP is not installed, you will need to install it before installing SquirrelMail.

To view the installed applications and to install applications in ISPmanager 4, go to Server Settings > Applications. This shows the list of applications that are installed or ready to be installed. If PHP (PHP Scripting Language) shows as installed (look in the Installed version column) then continue to installing SquirrelMail.

  • To install PHP, which is listed as PHP Scripting Language, click on that listing, then on Install in the upper right. This will install PHP.

  • To install SquirrelMail, which is listed as Webmail is a web-interface for managing email, click on that listing, then on Install in the upper right corner. This will install SquirrelMail.

ISPmanager 5

To use Webmail (Roundcube) in ISPmanager 5, you will need to make sure that PHP is installed. If PHP is not installed, you will need to install it before installing Roundcube.

To view the installed applications and to install applications in ISPmanager 5, go to Settings > Features. This shows the list of applications that are installed or ready to be installed.

  • To install PHP, click on Web-server (WWW), and then click on Edit in the upper left. In the Application settings - Web-server (WWW) screen, make sure that PHP is checked, then click on Apply changes. This will install PHP. If PHP is already installed here, click Cancel.

  • To install Roundcube, click on Mail server (SMTP/POP3/IMAP), and then click on Edit in the upper left. In the Application settings - Mail server (SMTP/POP3/IMAP) screen, make sure that RoundCube is checked, and then click Apply changes. This will install Roundcube.

Using Webmail

After the Webmail client is installed, it can be accessed one of two ways - either from the Control Panel itself, or from a direct URL. Most Control Panels only allow access to a limited group of administrator users, meaning the majority of users access the Webmail client from a direct URL in their browser.

The location of the Webmail client will differ depending on which version of ISPmanager you have installed.

  • ISPmanager 4 - go to Extra Applications > WebMail (if WebMail doesn't appear, either refresh your browser or log out and back in to ISPmanager). When you click on WebMail, this will open the SquirrelMail login page.

  • ISPmanager 5 - go to Extra Applications > Roundcube WebMail (if Roundcube WebMail doesn't appear, either refresh your browser or log out and back in to ISPmanager). When you click on Roundcube WebMail, this will open the Roundcube login page.

Accessing Webmail using a direct URL

For users that do not have Control Panel access, or if Control Panel access is not available, Webmail can be access via a direct URL. This URL can either use the domain name of the website, or the primary public IP address of the Virtual Server.

Logging in to the Webmail client

For both SquirrelMail and Roundcube, you log in using your full e-mail address and the password for that e-mail address. This will take you to the main screen of the Webmail client (usually the Inbox).
