Release Notes - Java SE 6

Sun's latest Java 6.0 (also known as Java 1.6) combines the functionality of the formerly separate JDK and JRE.

This Document will provide Java 6 release notes for all operating systems offered by eApps. Please see the section specific to the operating system of your subscription. To get the operating system of your subscription take the steps below.

Log into your Control Panel > click My Account tab > Subscriptions > click the Name of the subscription (with type Virtuozzo Container)> the operating system is listed on the Server section of the page.


CentOS 5

The latest version offered in CentOS 5 plans is 1.6.0_u20

CentOS 4
The latest version offered in CentOS 4 plans is 1.6.0_u2. To take advantage of the most current version, customers are encouraged to migrate to a CentOS 5 plan. For migration details please send a request to support@eapps.com.

eApps Specific Notes
- Runtime Heap is now set with Java 6 Update 2
- With version Update 2, the Java Runtime heap is now set with an initial value. See http://support.eapps.com/hsp/jrecommandline
- Our testing shows that JDK 1.6 will work with all versions of Tomcat and JBoss application servers.

How to Upgrade

UPGRADING from Java 5 (J2SE 5) or prior versions - To upgrade to the new version from prior versions, please use the following instructions.
  1. Login to your Control Panel and go to the System Tab
  2. Click on All Applications and uninstall the existing version of Java. If your current version is less than Java 5.0, you will need to uninstall both the JDK and JRE.
  3. Click on Add Application and install Java 6.0
UPGRADING from a prior version of Java 6 - To upgrade from a prior version of Java 6 please use the following instructions.
  1. Login to your Control Panel and go to the System tab
  2. Click on the Upgrade Applications icon
  3. Using the drop down menu, select the latest version of Java 6.
  4. Click the Upgrade button
Fedora Core

Java 6 is not available on Fedora Core plans. You will need to migrate to CentOS 5 if you want to use Java 6. For migration details send a request to support@eapps.com.
